korea Free and easy (Jeju) : Jeju Wet market

We wanted to visit a wet market.
At first, we wanted to visit Jeju Dongmun Traditional Market which was at the other end of Jeju as we were staying at Tae Gong Gak.
We consulted slyvia and she recommended this wet market 10 minutes away.
Interesting sights of the locals. and the food.

Side dishes
Main dishes
A Korean restaurant beside Tae Gong Gak.

They have a staff who speak chinese.
We order sea urchin soup, fish and seafood soup and abalone porridge.
Delicious food. Yummy,

Side dishes

Side dishes: seafood soup, steam egg. We ordered the soju.

Bbq black pork as recommended by Tae gong Gak. Can ask Sylvia for help on what to order as we have to choose which part of the pork to order
Very delicious. The oil actually get filtered away.
There are side dishes like potato and mushrooms.
The staff are helpful although they do not know english. I think it is some sort of buffet.
Quite value for money.
Feel good to eat such food in the cold weather and is ok to indulge once in a while in fatty food.

We ate at this restuarant as we told the taxi driver to bring us to a place which serve abalone porridge. The abalone porridge is ok to me but I just love their spicy seafood soup. Not too spicy and there are a lot of seafood.

Black Bean Noodle soup (jajangmyun)
Taxi driver brought us to eat this. A simple eatery.
Cheap and simple Korean food.
I need protein in my life so it is not very attractive to me.

Chinese restaurant recommended by Tae Gong Gak
Sylvia love the food here and this resturant is quite successful that it has branches.
However, I definitely taste much better chinese food.
The cute little girl was the highlight of the meal.

A cool little cafe to chill out recommended by Tae Gong Gak. Cool looking resturant with good tea and desserts.

We bought some snacks to eat during taxi rides.
Mochi with red beans
Korean persimmons, unlike those retailing in singapore, is soft and juicy. The skin is paper  thin.. I missed them :(
Bought abalone mushroom and cook them in the pantry

korea Free and easy (Jeju) : Dongmum traditional market, Jungang underground shopping, Iho beach, dragon head rock

We stay at Yeha on the first night.

We tried a barbecued pork restaurant on the first night .

Before check out, we went to do some sightseeing via taxi.

Dragon head rock
Not really worth a visit because the only thing to see is the dragon head rock.

Comparing the different colour of the sand

Iho beach. We took a cab in but could not find any cab to bring us out.
We walked half an hour and some kind hearted koreans help us to call a cab.

We walked from Jeju Dongmun Traditional Market and Jeju Jungang Underground Shopping Center to the beach .

Jeju Dongmun Traditional Market.

We visited Jeju Jungang Underground Shopping Cente but we did not get anything.

korea Free and easy (Jeju) : Teddy bear museum

The third party in a beary relationship. :(
I won't really recommend this place unless you really love bears.
I am not really into bears.
To me, some of the bears do look a bit dressing up in all kind of costumes
There are more interesting places in Jeju.

korea Free and easy (Jeju) : yeha and Tae Gong gak

Accommodations in Jeju. I stay in guest houses. I prefer the cozy environment which you can't find in hotel. and because the price is more economical.
Yeha Room
Yeha Information counter

Yeha Breakfast, Pantry and computer area

Yeha Guesthouse, stayed in November 2010.
It is located near to the airport and shopping district. Can take a taxi to the guest house.
The room was a bit small.
The room has a electric heat blanket which keeps you warm when you are on the bed. So you will be freezing once you are out of bed, especially when you are bathing.
They have quite a big pantry. The people staying in the guest house are young and they have tours which you can join.
The bread and eggs are provided but have to cook it yourself. They have a stove and fully equipped kitchen.
The computer area can get a big crowded as there are a lot of people using it at night.

Tae Gong Gak is located one hour bus ride from Gimpo Airport.
The reception is filled with drawings and writings from previous customers. Is quite interesting to just stand there and read what people have written.
I preferably Tae Gong Gak so I stayed there in 2010 and when I revisited Jeju in 2011.
The merlion gift we brought for Sylvia, the owner of the guest house during our second visit. I left my cable in the guest house and she send it back to me in Singapore without requesting me to pay for anything. Wonderful lady.
She is a fantastic host, always there to answer our every single question.
She made detailed guides to each locations. For example, we wanted to eat Korean BBQ pork, she recommended us a restaurant and she gave us instructions through a series of photos of important things to look out for. She showed us how to get to supermarket, wet market and also the waterfall. It is so hard to get lose your way with such detailed instructions.
We booked a taxi tour with her because price is reasonable. The taxi tour is catered to each individual needs. As she have a collection of photos of various locations so I can actually choose and decide which are the sights I want to visit and she will liaise with the taxi driver.

Our rooms. The heating system is the traditional Korean style. The floor is heated up and the whole room feel warm and cosy.
There is slight difference in the design of this room but I do like the simple and elegant feel of the room.

The breakfast consist of cerals, breads, instant noodles and fresh fruits. There are various beverages available too. There is a TV, toaster and microwave.

The guesthouse has a small tangerine farm. If you visit it at the right time, you can harvest some tangerine for your personal enjoyment.

Just cross the road after you exit the guest house and you will see this pretty little bridge.

Beautiful Jeju..
